Myanmar policymakers course held
YANGON, MYANMAR—A course for Myanmar policymakers’ course was held to introduce the Economy and Environment Institute – Lower Mekong Subregion (EEI-LMS) to environmental policymakers in the country as well as to introduce them to key concepts and tools in environmental economics. Held from 26 to 28 January 2016, the course highlighted the usefulness of environmental economics tools to the policymakers’ work, particularly with regards to decision-making on natural resource management.
Twenty-six policymakers from various government agencies in Myanmar, such as the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and the Yangon City Development Committee, among others, attended the three-day course. EEI-LMS Director Dr. Orapan Nabangchang, Dr. Adis Israngkura of the Thailand Development Research Institute, Dr. Htay Htay Lwin, Rector of Myanmar’s Co-operative University, and Ms. Mya Lwin Aung, EEI-LMS Deputy Director in Myanmar, served as the course resource persons.
