SELANGOR, MALAYSIA—The Economy and Environment Association-Malaysia (EEA-Malaysia) was formally introduced during a half-day launching event on March 8, 2016. The launch was opened by YA Dato’ Paduka Haji Azman Abdullah, a Kuala Lumpur high court judge who is also an alumnus of a training course for green bench justices held by the Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA Program). He drew attention to the pertinent need for the development of policy and technical advice in the conservation of ecosystem resources. The role of judges in giving judgement on environmental crime was also highlighted.
The launch was attended by more than 60 officers from government departments and agencies, research institutions, NGOs and the academe. It also featured talks on mainstreaming ecosystem valuation in addressing national environmental challenges and on the past, present and future challenges in environmental economics in Malaysia.
